 Extended School Year (ESY)

Extended School Year (ESY) is special education and/or related services provided beyond the regular school year. ESY is provided for those students who have an IEP and will be severely impacted by an extended break in instruction, and meet ESY criteria.

The need for ESY is discussed and determined at the annual review of the student’s individual Education Plan (IEP) and is based on the student’s performance data. The duration, frequency, and type of service is determined by the PPT at no cost to the parent. The goal of ESY is to assist students with disabilities on IEP goals/objectives for emerging skills, maintenance of skills, and self-sufficiency skills.
